Azeroth Postcard #3: The Barrens.
Three light studies for The Barrens.
While the light was easy to do, the giant vines and trees posed a challenge to the balance and narrative of the image. The giants trees and the vines are a difficult asset to feature in a realistic image. While they perfectly fit inside Azeroth and WoW narrative these are models that must be "adapted" from a cartoonish "simple" style to a more realistic tone. So...How a giant vine would be? How one of those giant trees with that noticeable shapes might be? May both be covered with smaller trees , bushes, other plants or more vines ? In the end, adding detail is not a problem, but how this detail is added under some special narrative terms is.
For the rest, the dry clean atmosphere, the light, the skies... these are always well defined when one flies around The Barrens, so it is really pleasant and a joy to work on images like this one. :-)
